September 9, 2003 Today, representatives of Horeca Nederland had a meeting with Mr. Hans Hoogervorst, the Public Health minister, in which two issues were covered: tobacco and alcohol. The Minister agrees that the introduction of a smoke-free workplace in the hospitality industry will cause major problems if the deadline of January 2005 is kept. Basically, no deadline will be used for the exemption of the hospitality industry of the smoke-free workplace, as a common action will generate a step-by-step plan aimed to the achievement of concrete measures in line with the social acceptance concerning the smoking issue. In this step-by-step plan, there will be a differentiation for each sector and within each sector, with special attention for youth and sports. |
